Mosque-Catedral de Córdoba

My FIRST excursion was a two-and-a-half hour drive to the city of Córdoba! There, we visited the BEAUTIFUL Great Mosque of Córdoba, the cathedral honoring the Virgin Mary. Arabic studies majors would fall in love with this important Morrish architecture.

The construction started around the 8th century. A special fact to note is that the 856 columns are "recycled," in which the architects used pieces from the old Roman temple that once occupied the space to build the columns. Each column is distinct in its own intricacy! The arches connecting the columns are red and white that allow balance and higher ceilings to the building.

I LOVED passing by the Mihrabs, which were adorned with geometric, complex, detailed designs. Religious inscriptions were written on the walls in calligraphy.
