A visit to the "country of nowhere" —the Alpujarra
Today my program took a trip to the Alpujarra, a village in the mountains and the last refuge for the Moors after they were expelled in 1492 after the Christians reconquered Spain.
It was a really nice day, and it had been awhile since I've done anything with my program since I changed my house, skipping the trip to Morocco. I really enjoyed how isolated this village was from Granada's city. Everything felt so preserved in its history and it gave me a different aspect of how people live in Granada.
After a nauseating drive through the mountains, the fresh air out here felt so much more appreciated. Flowers were finally sprouting and blossoming and it was one of the first times in a long time that our excursion wasn't in the rain. At the start we got a tour of the village of Pampaneira, from there we took a bus to two villages higher in the mountains— Capileira and Bubión. We visited the House Museum in Bubión, which showed us an authentic village-home inhabited back in the day.
After a look-around the museum, we hiked 45 minutes all the way back down to Pampaneira to have a peaceful lunch. The hike was not very easy going down, and it was so easy to fall and really hurt yourself.
Once we reached Pampaneira we split off to eat and my friends and I found a nice restaurant that had many CATS lurking around... (this village had many many many stray kitties walking the streets)
She silently begged for my plate of Rabbit.
Our last part of the trip was a visit to the Fuente Agria in Pórtugos, which is a fountain that has orange CO2 water..
