Hunting down the 'hipster' life of Granada

One of the main characteristics of the life and people of Spain is the idea of being de moda—in style. This includes dressing in the most popular brands, styling your hair (both men and women), listening to Top Hits in music, and enjoying the night dancing to Reggaeton. It is pretty rare to walk by a Spaniard wearing "artsy" clothing or colored hair. This is the case for the streets, but if you dig a little deeper into the types of atmospheres around, you'll find the places that draw the more hipster and "different" crowd.

Back in the United States, the "artsy" crowds who listen to Indie bands and dress of a style to express themselves are more common. I personally get along much better with these crowds of people!! My music tastes are definitely different from Today's Hits, and I prefer to chill in coffeeshops over discotecas.

Go to vegan bars!

One night I went with a group of friends out for drinks and tapas. We decided to stop at this Vegan bar and OH. MY. GOSH— never have I seen in Spain so many liberal posters related to women and the LGBTQ community. In addition to the decor, the music playing was more close to what I listen to normally AND the crowd the place attracted looked very different from what was de moda. Our waitress even had body piercings and colored hair and i just felt so at home! For most of the bars I have went to, I always felt like I was being watched by the men and I could tell that everybody had plans to go out to a discoteca afterwards. This bar, however, had a lot more "warm" feeling where I could just sit, relax, and enjoy myself without feeling like I was being watched or judged. Not here!!!

I went to another bar that also attracted a more relaxed crowd. This bar has live music at night, and I went during a night they had a German FOLK band come play! This my type of night life(:
