Living like a Local— Tango Time

A part from the internship, taking tango lessons in Buenos Aires was my DREAM for the journey.

Weeks leading up to board my international flight, I had been researching the best places to learn how to dance Argentine Tango— a sexy, improvised, smooth and intimate dance between partners. Although I was hoping that I would start my lessons ASAP so I could dance for 2 months, I actually did not end up starting until 1 month into my program.

There is no way you CANNOT find a location to learn Tango. Everyday of the week there are Milongas, which are essentially Tango socials to celebrate something so woven into the culture. I found my favorite studio— DNI Tango.

This is a GORGEOUS studio for the pretty ivy growing on the exterior. I also researched that this place has wonderful instructors who speak Spanish and English every class— I of course listened in Spanish and spoke in Spanish no matter how many times the instructors took me as an English speaker.

There are lessons for ALL levels for overwhelmingly cheap prices. I bought a pack of 10 classes for a total of $36 USD (woah!) I spent most of my classes in Tango 2 and 2/3 (intermediate levels) and STILL have so much to learn to really get to the level I desire for myself. I wish there were nearby Tango lessons in my city back at home...

The instructors are SUPER friendly and I adored my Tango 2 instructors because they were so precious and friendly (Cati and Nahuel). The whole atmosphere is quite inclusive and everybody there wants to learn to dance and you may meet somebody from other countries!

What I love about learning Tango here compared to the classes I have taken in the United States is that this studio teaches you "authentic" Tango that is improvised and natural compared to the rigid structure I have learned in ballroom classes.

I will always remember this experience as one of the best opportunities I have ever received and I am so happy I decided to do this for myself in the process of shaping my own experience here.
