Day of the Dead at the Fred Jones Museum

November 2, 2019

I was looking forward to the annual Day of the Dead Festival in Norman, but unfortunately for financial reasons it was cancelled. In efforts to continue embracing Latin American culture, the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art held their own event.

What I really liked about this event was that there were more engaging activities for kids/people to interact with the Mexican culture. They learned about ofrendas and got to make their own decorations for them, along with other activities such as sugar skull mask creations and papel picado constructions.

I did see some families that dressed up in beautiful jewels and face paint— to make their faces look like skulls.

At one point we saw some folk dancing which was pretty. I always enjoy when OU hosts events that help people learn about new cultures and bring eachother together!
